A short but profound story.

One day, an old man was walking along a beach when he came across a boy throwing something into the water. As he got closer, he saw hundreds of starfish washed ashore by the tide. The old man chuckled, looked down, then sighed. "Little boy, there are too many of them to save and just one of you, what difference will it make?" The boy paused for a second, then bent down and picked up another starfish. He threw it into the sea and said, "it made a difference to that one!"

Like the little boy in the story, we realise that although the difference we make is insignificant relative to the world, the difference we make relative to our capability is what truly matters. At Respite International we will do our own little part in changing the world, on the shores of destitution, one person at a time. And just as a little organisation can make a world of a difference to someone, so too can a single person, you! So pick up those starfish and never stop throwing!
